Are Your Tax Exemptions in Place?!

Save Your Hard Earned Money.

Exemptions are a form of tax relief that can reduce the taxable value of your property. If you do not have your exemptions in place, we want to encourage you to request them NOW! Having exemptions on your primary residence can save you hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars every year. The best part is that it only takes about 15 minutes of your time, and you only have to apply once. Here is a step by step guide to help you with your exemptions.

Types of exemptions include:
• Homestead
• Disabled veteran
• Over 65 years of age
• Agricultural
• Disabled individual

Applying for Tax Exemptions:

If you own and occupy your home, it is your homestead and you likely qualify for a homestead exemption. This is the most common type of tax exemption. When submitting an application for exemptions, you must submit a copy of your driver’s license. The address on your license must match the property address of the property you arefiling the exemption for.

Have you forgotten to file since moving into your home? File ASAP, and reach out to your county’s appraisal district to see if you can be reimbursed for past tax payments without exemptions . It is free to file exemptions, so don’t be fooled by the spam mailings asking for a fee.

The forms can be downloaded on the Central Appraisal District’s website for the county in which the property is located. Central Appraisal District contact information is listed in the image below.
